Microfinancing and Music

I am a big fan of microfinancing – making small loans to help others start businesses. Kiva is the prime organization for this form of investment.

Calabash Music, an excellent model and source for world music, is looking to enter this area of financing to help musicians. This model will allow listeners to help finance musicians’ projects. The concept of microfinance resonates with me. In addition to Kiva, I support ModestNeeds, an organization that helps Americans down on their luck.

There are many worthy ESL projects and many teachers that fund projects they develop to teach English as a Second Language. Maybe the microfinance model can work for education or charitable initiatives.

Please share your ideas with me.
