I am reading the book, How to Learn Any Language by Barry Farber (ISBN 0-8065-1271-7). It is an interesting book that provides useful tips and techniques. The tips provide a common sense approach. One of my favorite tips answers the question about not having the time to practice another language. Mr. Farber suggests keeping flash cards or you can use an iPod with audio or JPEGs of PowerPoint flashcards and study them during the small amounts of downtime you have, for example, reviewing flashcards while you are on an elevator or having morning coffee. You could also listen to bits of audio lessons while on the elevator.
He also suggests reading as much as you can in the target language that you want to learn. Today, this is an easy task. Many foreign newspapers and magazines are accessible via the Internet.
Mr. Farber is an interesting person. His Wikipedia bio states that he has knowledge of more than 25 languages.
