Are we who we think we are or how people judge us to be? Do we judge people as they are or how media and other sources influence our perceptions? The majority of my students are Muslim; I am Jewish. Many of my Muslim students have become good friends. We talk openly about religion and culture and find more commonality as opposed to differences. If we were to be influenced by news reports and political ideology, we should be enemies.
Budget cuts are important, there is no doubt that government spends foolishly and unnecessarily. However, is all the foolish spending directed towards the programs we feel unnecessary or can we also see that some of the programs that benefit us my also be a part of the unnecessary spending?
Is there really a liberal press? Most newspapers that are considered to be liberal I believe to be middle-of-the-road. Business interests tend to play it safe. Conservatism and middle-of-the-road are safe business practices.
Can you agree with an editorial published in a paper whose ideology you disagree with?
Don’t confuse freedom of speech with the expectation that everyone should listen to you. We also have freedom of choice which includes the freedom not to listen.
