A joke, popular at language-learning schools says,
“What do you call a person who speaks 2 languages? Bilingual. What do you call a person who speaks 3 or more languages? Multilingual. What do you call a person who speaks 1 language? An American.”
In reality, there are many Americans who speak more than one language. Some study foreign languages at school while others are raised in families that speak more than one language. My grandparents spoke Yiddish. My dad could understand Yiddish but could not speak it.
Multilingual Living is a website that provides a wealth of information helpful to multilingual families, useful for those learning a second language, plus interesting interviews, etc. Language lovers and families that speak more than one language will love this site.
While I am not fluent in foreign languages, I am well-experienced with foods from other countries, whether it be Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, and so on. I love to eat. My goal is to turn my passion of eating into healthy eating. My ESL students believe that American cuisine is fast food. I want to change that belief by being a healthy role model, to invest in my health, and to eliminate my “shrinking clothes” problem.
EatingWell, both the website and magazine, is a great place to learn about healthy eating. On this site you will find recipes, diet and nutrition information, plus a variety of other healthy eating information.
While reading a recent issue of EatingWell magazine, I saw an interesting ad for SlimWare a company that makes plates that help and teach you the correct portion sizes. These plates provide a “map” that helps you eat the correct portions of foods to meet your daily recommended requirements of vegetables, carbs, and proteins.
Good idea. Take a moment and see if this product is right for you.
