There is a quote which goes something like this – “Teach a man and you teach an individual. Teach a woman and you teach a community.” It’s true. I’m learning that if you want change for the better, you get more bang for the buck teaching women instead of teaching men.
It’s not about intelligence; both are equally intelligent. It is about communication and sharing. Men tend to be more individualistic, we share less. Women share information and teach their children and share knowledge with other women who teach their children. This cycle self-perpetuates.
Many of my women students are from countries whose cultures have specific roles for men and women. When they share their goals with me, it includes more freedom for choices in life. I see the fire in their eyes and hear the passion in their voices. It will take time but I’m positive their societies will change and offer more choices for women.
