Waiting For Superman

Waiting For Superman is an interesting documentary about the current educational crisis. If you are very pro teacher’s union you probably won’t like Waiting For Superman. If you are very pro charter school, you will like this documentary. Anybody that truly cares about education, regardless of political views, should watch Waiting For Superman.

I loved this documentary. Coming from a business and high-tech background before becoming a teacher, I have an entrepreneurial streak and always try new ideas. If I taught in a public school system, both the parents and the union would hate me.

If you believe in change, disruption, and have the nerve to do what’s right, the education field needs you. Where there is difficulty, there is opportunity.

Our educational system can be fixed; I have no doubt about that. It is not about public schools vs. charter schools or whether it is better to home school your child. It’s not about standardized tests. It’s about teaching and learning. Tests measure what the test makers decide to measure, not necessarily if students are learning. Tests are important but the type of test and how it is given can skew results.¬†Quality education is a right for all students regardless of their zip code, skin color, or religion. Public schools and charter schools are equally important.

Rent the DVD, view the website, and participate in your child’s education. Don’t leave your child’s education in the hands of politicians whether they are Democrats or Republicans. No child deserves that fate.
