I love philosophy. It is a subject that I believe needs to be taught so students learn to analyze and discuss different points of view. Self-help books like The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People by Stephen Covey also provide value.

Does philosophy matter? Yes! I teach and I work at start-ups. Too often I see people act without thinking, believe success is just a mouse click away, cannot debate an issue without name calling, etc. Philosophy opens your mind to new ideas and trains your mind to evaluate issues based on their logic, not by soundbites.
Some of my friends tell me that self-help books are a waste of money, that they don’t work. Self-help books do work if you implement the advice they give.
